I took my shih tzu dog to the groomer today for his hair cut, nails trim and bath. Felix is 7 1/2 years old.

When I went to pick him up the owner of the place told me that the groomer said his right ear was red and infected.

I brought him home and called the vet. I took him to vet and he has ear mites, never had a sick dog before. So now I am putting 8 drops of medicine in his year twice a day for the next week.

Have you ever had a dog with ear mites? I am reading up on them online. He is an inside dog. We don't have cats, but some stray cats in the back yard. Also some wild rabbits in the back yard.

I have never had a sick dog.

Thank goodness the groomer caught it. Mites can be nasty if not tended too. Hope your baby gets to feeling better.

When I was young the rabbits used to get ear mites, but I have never had a dog with them. Hope it gets better really fast.

I know it is hard to take care of our fur babies as they can not tell us what is wrong. I have 2 lashas and the youngest by being the last one born in the litter, has had yeast infections in his ears, kidney tract infection and each time it is like taking care of sick baby. They are like out little kids

I had a shih tzu many years ago, and yep, she had ear problems too. We repeatedly took her to the vet, but was told it wasn't mites. Part of her problem was that her ears weren't "breathing". They flopped down over themselves, and moisture would build up in them. It would get yucky, and she'd start scratching, making it that much worse. :(

The vet recommended a product to wash her ears out, that would also help dry the moisture. I can't remember what it was called, but it was a blue liquid in a clear plastic squeeze bottle.

The poor dog HATED having her ears washed, but it did help some (not 100%, though).

We have had ear mites in our dogs. They are like fleas around here. We keep meds on hand for both. Our vet is 40 miles away. They are pesky but can be controlled. We have 5 dogs and live very rural. Baby will be better in a few days.:)
