Default Trading Up

There were a series of stories in "The Saturday Evening Post" magazines about a man that was always trading things - he usually managed to "trade up" - and one of his key strategies was asking for something "to boot"

Anyone else remember the stories and the name of the author and main character?

(I know - I am dating myself - but I am old(er!))

I believe there was a TV show like that at one time. "Barter Kings" was the TV show. There was a "Trading Up", but I believe it was about cars. Try Googling "Trading Up" - I added TV show

I remember a story of a guy starting with a paperclip and ending up with a house. But that is all I remember.

“Horse trading”. Our son is pretty good at it. He once traded an old beat up “drive to work” car for 20# hamburger.
