    I have never used wax for Xstitching but yes for quilting and the little tip I learned was that after you run the thread through the wax pull it under an iron set on low. It will stiffen the thread enough to keep it from twisting and melt off any wax build up and I always have clean stitching.
    Now, you can't do this in a plane or car but a travel iron for when you reach your destination may be just the thing!

    Ironing it would work. I may try this.
