I'm ready to stop looking in my mailbox at all! Today I got a bill from the hospital for a procedure performed on my handicapped daughter in April of 2008!!! This is the first I have seen of this bill and it is for $940. You have got to be kidding me!!! UGh... not a fan of the mail today. : (

I think that all government agencies could cut back. Have you seen how the government has grown? The Dept. of Energy has too many employees and yet our energy problems are still there. Now that the president has instituted the "green movement" what agency has been created for that. Dept of Education-our schools still have problems. So what is different with the USPS?

I agree that the post office shouldn't be spending money on the "gimmick" items like they do. There has to be a lot of money wrapped in that stuff. Our post office actually has all the videos and cd's from xmas on discount on the counter cuz they didnt sell. I think there are many ways they could stop "leaking" funds. Mismanagment. I know I stopped shipping via parcel post because 7 times out of 10 its cheaper to send that package via fed ex ground. Not to mention that I had 2 parcel post package never reach their destination. If they would look at stuff like that they might figure it out. Ok Ok getting off soap box.

I have said for yrs that the PO needs to stop paying millions for ads on tv because who doesn't know the PO exists once they get to be about in the 2nd grade? Also, they should just print generic "forever" stamps & do away with all the others that have to be very costly to print. I have a friend whose son is a semi truck driver. His co was paid $80,000 to deliver stamps that had outdated prices on them from MO to NY so that they could be destroyed! Wow, that just made my blood boil when she told me about that. Talk about a waste of money! Why couldn't the person at the PO just sell stamps with a smaller demonination to make up the difference? Or better yet, do what I suggested above & only sell generic "forever" stamps.

A woman who has worked at our local post office for years asked me a couple months ago if they were hiring where I worked. She said they were cutting back their hours. This was a couple months ago and all of a sudden she doesn't work there anymore. It's so sad.

There prices are already out of site. They wanted to charge me over $17.00 to mail a quilt top in a 11"X8"X4" box. They quoted me 14.00+ for an envelope. I went to the post office and mailed it for 7.00+ and it would arrive one day earlier. Postage has really gone up but the US Post Office seems to be the cheapest now.
