    I went to Mom's and packed up all of my Dad's things - he was a Veteran of WW2. I packed up 3 huge bags of clothing, including many flannel shirts. I keep thinking of taking out the shirts and making a quilt of them - but also think of how many people those shirts would keep warm. If I give them away I'm afraid that I will regret it. If I take them out of the bags I can always give them back the next donation time.

    I would pull out any shirts that show some colar or cuff wear & cut those up for quilt material.

    However, maybe you should ask you mom if she would like a quilt made from your dad's shirts.

    If you are not sure, maybe you should hang on to them. If you decide not to use them, they could be donated at a later date, if not to the same place, to somewhere else.

    I would hang on to them. If you are thinking of a quilt you may regret it later if they are not there to use.

    I also say keep them for a while - you can always donate them at a later date.

    I agree when my grandfather died I kept a lot of his clothing my husband wore some of his shirts and I got all of his fleece jackets. I put them on and it is like he is right there. Making a quilt out of the shirts is such a priceless memory. Hold on to them.

    Here is another option to put a few of the shirts to a good use for a memory. A gal at work did that with her dad's shirts. The bear is really well made and sweet.

    I made a quilt for my girlfriend whose father had passed.
    All her dad wore was flannel shirts.
    Her husband gave them to me, and we surprised her with a quilt (big heart)for her birthday. She cried when she opened it. I saved all the scraps and someday will make quilts for her kids.
