Does anyone ever get any bluebirds in Illinois? I saw flocks of them in Tenn. & I just loved them. I wish we had some at my house.

lol I use to not touch them but then we made a 40 gallon aquarium into a terrarium and had lizards and frogs. Of course I fed them all the time so they got use to me and would come up and eat out of my hands! I was so into it, that I got over the yuk factor :) I have to be so careful of feeding the birds and giving them safe shelter due to the cats here so I feed them myself and have made very safe feeders with great trees and bushes for them. Sometimes I am amazed at how much time I spend on critters!

Cyn, where do you find the worms? we have a pair that has raised 4-5 ????nest of babies, don't know what they're called but want them to stay, also does anybody know how to attract red birds? we tried sunflower seeds but only had onw passerby, I would like for the mocking birds and blue jays to leave tho. LOL  we have oodles of doves, 3-4 different kinds
I go to the local pet store and they have them all the time. They are cold when I get them and start moving as they warm up. I set them out in a straight sided dish so they can't climb out.

We have a store here called Wild Birds Unlimited. The worms are in a little refrigorator.

I have a big bag of picked out threads that I am going to put out on the orange tree for the birds to use in nests. In Central CA our birds stay all year round, staying a lot in our orange tree outside my sewing room window. We have flocks of cute tiny little finches, mocking birds, jays, and one little dark small bird with a hatchet shaped head that I don't know the name of.

CarrieAnne, I saw a robin a few weeks ago! It was horrendously cold and tons of snow, poor thing. Probably one of the "scouts" ;) And I've heard the cardinals spring song, and today saw (and heard!!!) a huge flock of starlings. Oh - and I also saw some daffodils poking up! It's coming!!!!
