For me, I don't keep a glass near the sewing machine, in front or behind, regardless of how much is in it. Within reach, yes, but not near. :-)

Coffee cup is half full and usually cold by the time I get to it while I'm sewing. Water is half full in a plastic bottle with a lid on it.
Both are on my desk at the other end of the quilt studio so I have to get up to get a drink and it gives me a break and chance to stretch my legs.

My glass is always full and I am drinking from the saucer. As for the machine, if you are sewing you are at the front.

It depends on who's buying. If the other guy is buying, the glass is half empty, and I should probably get a filler. If I'm buying, then the glass is half full, and I'm good for awhile.

If the glass was half full, that would mean I would be under the sewing machine!

My machine just went nutso and started sewing backwards only, so to sew from the front I would have to be behind the machine.

The glass is half-full of diet lemonade and is nowhere near the sewing machine, where I am sure to knock it into either the machine or onto the project!
