I broke one of our cats by putting tape, (sticky side up) on the counter and sheets of paper. The paper slides and they don't like that and the tape...well...you know how that goes. ;) So much easier to clean up also. :) Hope that you find a solution.

Kola loves paper, so I know that won't work.

As for a solution, it isn't a problem for us. We just thought it was funny to see if she actually wandered about up there.

I've got a Diluted Calico cat that I think is more Turkish Van because she loves water. I will be at the kitchen sink running water and she will come and meow at me. I'll ask her if she wants to get wet and she meows again. I tell her, OK, let's go get in the tub. She runs into the bathroom and is waiting in the tub for me to put water all over her back. We do this maybe 10 times a day.

That rattling noise you hear sometimes is that cat yanking your chain.

[quote=Quiltbeagle]Cats don't like sticky stuff on their paw pads and double sided tape every 2" or so on a piece of cardboard placed on your counters will discourage them from going on them.quote]

That's what I was going to suggest! Cats do have a mind of their own!

If you don't mind the smell, a bit of Vic's VapoRub on a small piece of paper towel, will smell so awful to her, she won't go anywhere near it.
I use it to rub on electrical cords when we have pups to discourage chewing them.

I have basenjis, the dog for peole who like cats, I had one hear from CA once and I turned my baack for no more than 2 seconds, and he jumped on the counter! No running jump, just leaped like a cat. Then he looked at me as if to say "What? I do this all the time"

My cat doesn't mind the sticky tape....makes a game out of pulling it off. He has his own little counter that I don't use for human use and we put his food dish there so the dogs can't get it. He also has figured out how to pull the faucet lever in the bathtub to turn on the cold water.
