How close is it to Pigeon Forge? Is it listed with a realtor? Would love to see pics! Don't need the quilting stores....I'll be re-opening mine!

No its not really close to Pigeon Forge, I'd say 300 miles, we're on the other side of TN but it's not a bad drive we go there often..interstate 40 all the way. We are not listed with a realtor yet. If you're interested send me your email address and I'll send you pictures and more details.

Sorry, I thought it was a given that everyone who retired in Long Island moved here, to Wilmington, NC. It is a wonderful place--hot in the summer, gorgeous in the spring, mild in the winter, and FULL of people from Long Island! Our beach is absolutely beautiful, and not too crowded (oops, I'm not supposed to talk about our uncrowded beach, because all of us fear the crowds from Myrtle Beach will find us). People are so friendly, and there are many activities to keep your busy. Local quilt shops cater to quilters, too!

Asheville is beautiful and perfect for creative types. I only visited there once but totally fell in love with it.
It depends on what exactly you are looking for. What kind of people you want to be around.
Me I would go back to GA in a heartbeat if I had any money
Housing there right now is super cheap. Where we lived was just south west of the Atlanta airport. Near enough to go to Atlanta. On the Marta line if I needed it. Although most people moved to the north side it was too crowded and too expensive for us. Fairburn fit me nicely. Like any place else the south side has good and bad areas. And some of the so called good area's are the worst.
I will say though culture shock is to be expected moving from the north to GA . :-)

I am in Florida but the most beautiful place I have lived & wish was back there is MONTANA!! There is no humidity & really not that cold. We were in Helena!! Beautiful place with the mountains. Really miss it.

The only thing I would caution people on is when they move to a different place to make sure they are close to doctors and hospitals. My parents live an hour and half away from us. So when they have to go to a specialist I have to drive there and pick them up and then take them home again. It is nice to live in a small town or rural area but it can cause problems as you get older. Expecially if you don't have family around to take you to those appointments when you get older. My parents are both in their 80s. My dad no longer drives and my mom only drives around the small town they live in.

I would vote for North Ga,Eastern TN,or Western NC.Allare relatively near airports, great weather most of the time.It can get hot in Summer and cold in Winter, but it doesn`t last for long periods. Here in GA we tell visitors if you don`t like the weather, wait a few days it will change. There are alot of good dining spots, sporting events, such as our Atlanta Braves,Atlanta Falcons and TN Titans and then smaller teams.
Great quilt shops, guilds and great quilt shows, such as Mountain Quiltfest in Pigeon Forge,TN,Bulloch Hall in Roswell,GA ,East Cobb show in Marietta,GA just to name a few.
