I know exactly what you mean. When DD was injured it was touch and go for 9 months before we were even sure if she would live. I couldn't do anything. On top of that I had no appetite but knew I had to eat. For 9 months I lived on bread and butter it was the fastest thing to shove in my mouth. I am not talking a slice or 2 I mean and entire loaf at the end of the day using 2 sticks of butter. On top of that it took close to a year to find someone to do our grocery shopping. When there isn't any healthy food or even food for that matter you eat what you have. My entire culinary education on nutrition went down the drain and the pounds piled on. When I think back I started with having to lose the 60 pounds that I had gained over that period of time. I guess it could have been even more weight then that and I have lost 30 so I am 1/2 way there.

I'm about to head out for physical therapy and from there the grocery store. I made a list of fruits, veggies and such that I need to get. I will NOT venture off this list and I will NOT walk past the bakery.

Trying to remember what all I wanted to reply to, after playing catch up on the last ten pages, lol...

On keeping myself honest/accountable - I read a thing the other day (online) about documenting your year by taking a picture every day. My picture will be of my scale, lol.

On not wanting to be seen exercising - I have this so bad, I skipped my high school reunion b/c I didn't want to be the 'girl who got fat' and everybody talked about. :( I will go to the Y, though - one good thing about being a military wife and moving around so much is that nobody really knows you, or what you USED to look like, etc. :) Looking for the silver lining, here, ppl, lol.

Oh snap. I knew I'd forget what else I wanted to reply to...

Oh remembered one - instead of reading a book while I'm working out, I like to listen to one on my phone. Or a podcast. Just have to be careful not to pick a funny one b/c you want to talk about looking like a fool? Just imagine a person working up a sweat on a treadmill and then all of a sudden she bursts out in fit of laughter that causes her to lose her balance, and go flying into the machine behind her...good times. lol

Find out your target heart rate and check often to see if you are in that range. 20-30 minutes of that will do more for you than hours of leisurely walking while reading a magazine in the book rack. In my gym, the people who read while using the cardio machines are not the ones you see ever get any smaller. My rule of thumb is that if you can see print on a page or screen while working out, you aren't working hard enough to do any good.
That may be fine and good for people that have a baseline of fitness but for the great majority of the people here we are just trying to get some movement into our days. There is NO WAY I could exercise at the intensity you talked about. I walked up and down the stairs in my house once and I walked through the grocery store and I am worn out. ANY movement is better than NO movement.

I hear that you are trying to help but remember, we are not all at a place where we can work out like that. There are many days where walking to the mailbox and back is all I can do.

Another thing to remember is we are here to encourage each other and not discourage those that cannot do what others can do. I think that by telling people that they wont get smaller if they are not working at their target heart rate and if they read while the are exercising is not a good thing. We are doing OUR best not YOUR best or other people's best who are much healthier than us.

    Just my two cents.

I agree with you Missy. Age and illnesses also factor into this because this type of strenous exercise can really be detrimental. But God Bless Sewbiz for doing all that exercise.

If you try and make things easier to eat that are healthy it takes the thought and worry out of it. I wake up in the morning and plan my meals and snacks for the day. Sometimes menus for a few days if I am making muffins etc. I NEED snacks if I don't eat something every 2 hours I get a headache and feel sick to my stomach. I spread my food out through the day. I don't have salad with dinner I have it as a snack after dinner. I LOVE a green salad with manderine oranges, dried cranberries and creamy raspberry dressing. It tasts like dessert.

    Creamy Raspberry Dressing
    1 c plain yogurt
    1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
    2 tbsp raspberry jam
    salt and pepper to taste
    wisk all together. YUMMMMMM!!
    Sounds good trupeach

Thank you!! I'm still working on it. We have to eat dinner in the livingroom because I can't move it until I have it sewn. I don't let anyone eat in there so I'm not looking forward to it. ;(
