Also, my daughter is a chemist. Asparatime - the major sugar substitute in soda - is poisonous if it warm gets warm enough. Say you leave it in a car and drink it later. In enough quatity, it can make you very sick.

The little packets you can add to water to make it flavored are way too strong. I purchase a gallon (the big square bottle) of water and use only one packet. But, keep it cold, it has asparatime in it.

The fat substitute 'olestra' isn't too bad if you have 10-12 chips, but if you are like me and only see FREE on the bag, you will eat many more. Stay close to the bathroom, you will need it!

If you have to have the crunch, 1 oz of puffy cheetos is about 12-16. Eat them one at a time and slow. Enjoy that crunch appeal. It is only 15 carbs and no fat.
What does your daughter say about Splenda and others like it.

Gabi says that anything you add and then eat is okay. She doesn't think we should cook with splenda or any other substitute. It is harder to know how these change when heated and cooled. Much better to use no sugar applesauce. Or use fruit juice for the liquid and about 1/4-1/3 the sugar.

My thing is, if you are making muffins, use applesauce instead of most of the fat. Cut the sugar in half and add some fruit for sweetness. Also try combinations like orange zest and some crazins soaked in the liquid you are going to add to the muffins anyway. I just sprinkle a bit of sugar on the top. My kids don't know there isn't sugar in these.

The key idea is we are learning to eat correctly, with balance. Watch a skinny person eat. They don't get 3-4 muffins, they take one. They don't drink the whole six-pack. They drink 1-2 in the whole day. Shoot, I can drink 6 in a morning. My skinny daughter Catie will make a nice sandwich complete with cheese, mayo, meat, lettuce, tomato. She cuts in in half and shares it with her son. When we have nachos, she and her husband share a plate that is what I would consider a serving. When I eat like Catie, I feel better and lose weight. When I eat my way...Well, I'm here aren't I. That about says it all.

I don't mind if not one else does. :D :D and I am sure they won't. You are 2 days behind but I don't think 2 days will make that much difference in the end result.

I love the CW, not the war itself but the era. I am interested in the history of it all. I have friends that are reenactors and I want to be buried at Evergreen Cemetary in Gettysburg. What pattern are you using for your quilt??????

I have started on the Love Letters quilt, I have only about 13 blocks made, I had to stop to work on other things. The Civil War era is interesting, I am reading a book on Abraham Lincoln, the sub title is The Political Genius of Abrham Lincoln, I never remember the title. It is almost 800 pages but surprisingly an easy read. A cousin wrote a book about our Kentucky ancestors in the war and I was surprised that most were yankees, I know I had one GGGF that was southern. I had alwasy considered myself as a southern girl even tho I was from a border state. I plan to do a Dear Jane if I finish this one any time soon. Thanks for letting me join.

My DH and I are reading a book our doctor told us to read called
Sugar Busters. In it they talk about regular soda and diet soda. According to it your body treats sugars and sugar substitute the same, the body stores both as fat. So IF i feel I just have to have a soda I get a small glass and fill it with crushed ice and then I'm drinking about a third of what would in the passed. I have also over the passed weeks used iced tea with lemon and no sugar. It took and few times to get used to it. It has taken time for me to flush the sugar out of my body. It's a lot like smoking. The more you have the more you want. Really hard cycle to break, but with this support group we can all succeed

Thanks to you all for the tips and recipes.

I like the ginger and lemon tea from my local super market, I used to add a small amount of honey to it but now I am used to it I don't bother, you can take it hot or chilled, there are many other health type teas out there to suit all tastes! I found just drinking water got a little too boring!

    Happy fourth everyone.
Update on the viral rash - my eye/face is getting better but itches terribly...I can put something on my face but my eye (lid) just has to itch. Dr. put me on a medication that is slowly working as the swelling is down but not gone...the rash has made my face/eye feel leathery :( Not that I'm all that concerned about my looks, I just don't like the feel. I still have a lot of inflammation in the inside corner of my eye. i have to be careful as this can turn into conjunctivitis and I don't want that!

Diet Plan is going pretty good. trying to eat fresh veggies and fruit. Being very allergic to artificial sweeteners, I use Stevia, Agave nectar, or 1/2 the sugar. I'm hypoglycemic also. The biggest temptation is that dgd went to a 4th of July parade yesterday and brought home 1/2 a Walmart bag of candy (tootsie rolls, etc... my favorite) She's not a big candy eater so this stay around for very long time. :?

My next challenge is to get over the ho-hum depression and finish my quilts4kids that I've had since November....I got 6 of them for my Girl Scout troup but only 1 of the girls completed hers and another girl did most of the work but we ran out of meetings for her to complete it...I got that one finished. My assistant leader completed 2 more leaving me to do the last two...They aren't difficult patterns (4 patch) yeah... I'm just not in the mood to unbury my sewing machine and sew...gotta get out of that in a hurry... I really think it's because my sewing room is part of the construction aka storage/hall and I can't focus in there. I've had to move my iron into the construction site because of space. I'd post pics but I'm too embarrassed that I'm not more organized. I also have a quilt that is a baby gift (baby is 4 months old) that I have 1/4 quilted that I need to get back into but that requires me putting the FQM foot on my machine. I need to just get myself by the scuff of the neck and get busy. I know that my depression would lift if I got something done and could feel good about myself.
I'm just glad I have this group of friends that understand what I'm going through.
*music note* Thank you for being my friend(s) *music note* hee hee
