Years ago we caught chiggers and tried every home advice I heard.
Finally on advice I went from one service station to another asking for gunk. It is a car parts cleaned close to kerosene. The guy asked me why I wanted it, and took my little bottle and filled it. As he handed it back to me he said” no charge, it will be my pleasure to kill them for you”. And I put it on all of us, it killed them in minutes. It suffocates them.

I got them once wild raspberry picking 29 years ago. I have not gone since, and to top it all off I have a real bug phobia. Imagine my state of mind when I realized they crawl in and out of your skin. Seriously thought I was going to have a nervous break down. All those years playing in leaf piles and fresh cut grass as a kid and never once got them, was beginning to think they were just a myth to keep us from messing up the leaf piles.

Oh, there was a little chigger
    And he wasn't any bigger
Than the head of a very small pin.
But the bump that he raises
    Just itches like the blazes,
And that's where the rub comes in!

    Comes in, comes in
And that's where the rub comes in.

One of our nature camp songs. I think the tune is "Pollywolly Doodle".

For itch relief sing at the top of the lungs. Repeat ad nauseam.
