Voyager by Diana Gabaldon. It is #1 in a series that is available at most libraries. I read this series while DD took her time having DGD. (She was in the hospital for over a week.)

Judy, I loved reading the Mitford Series....
Also, anything by Francine Rivers would keep you riveted.. she is excellent! And try Bodie Thoene's Chronicles as they are fantastic reading, too..

Yes! I've read all of their books and loved them.. And to think that Bodie use to write for John Wayne! Interesting backgrounds for she and her husband.. with him being the historian.

Patrick Taylor has done a series of books about two doctors living and practicing in a small Irish town, set in the mid 1960's. The first in the series is "An Irish Country Village". I've read them all and am looking forward to the next one.
God bless you for caring for your mom. The overmedication was a problem for my MIL. She too was much better after her meds were adjusted or eliminated.

Thanks for your kind thoughts and prayers. They are very much appreciated.

Thanks for your kind thoughts and your concern. I really appreciate all of the support and kindness from the members of this board. Everyone has been wonderful. I'll look into the books and authors you've suggested. They sound like subjects I would be interested in and the 700 pages doesn't scare me off (lol)! Thanks.
I'm so sorry to hear about your husband. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Please take care of yourself. He needs you and in order to help him, you must take care of yourself. My heart goes out to you. I know what you are going through. God Bless.

"The Help" was very good as well.
I've read "To Kill a Mockingbird" several times and I'm currently reading it again! This is my favorite book of all time! I also read "The Help" and really enjoyed it, as well. Thanks for your suggestions.

This sounds really interesting. Will definitely check into this one! Thanks for suggesting it.
