Sold mine, it would have cost me $75 to clean and preserve it. My neighbor bought it, and and wore it 2 years later. She never needed altering, we were the exact same size.

I had mine hanging in a second bedroom closet, and wanted one of my daughters to wear it one day when they got married. We were married 11 years when we adopted our first child, and over the next few years, we adopted 6 more. We have 3 boys and 4 girls. One day, I mentioned that I couldn't find it, and one of my daughters told me "I took it with me to Florida!" I asked her why and she told me, "because I wanted it!". This was 5 or 6 years later. She had moved to Florida with it, and then packed all of her belongings into a storage shed there, and moved back to California. She never paid on the storage, so my dress is gone....BUT, I still have my wonderful husband of 37+ years! He's a keeper!

Mine is stored in a box here at home. My DD #1 is getting married next year, but won't use it because she looks better in white than ivory. DD #2 won't use it (if and when...) because it covers too much! :lol: I had a winter wedding 30 years ago. The gown has sleeves (gasp!) Interesting that everything we have found while looking this year has been strapless. The stores won't even order dresses with straps/sleeves, so we were told. So I will make a dress that will be stored here until DD has a place to keep hers! :lol:

DDs are too tall for my gown and they don't like the style....so it's in a tote in storage.

I still have mine, from second marriage so not a white gown.

But several people around here are donating their wedding dresses
to a group that makes burial gowns for still birth or premie babies.
They call them Angel Children..and the parents get a lovely gown
for when they see their baby for the last time.

You could contact any hospital, or hospital volunteers, they will have
some ideas of their own.

You can make a beautiful quilt from your wedding dress. Just google wedding dress quilts and you will see what some others have done with them.

I loved reading this thread. I bought my own dress and paid 17.00 for it. It was a short white eyelet(I think that's what it is called) dress and i purchased a veil. I think my whole wedding cost about 100.00 if that much. Been married to same man for 48 yrs. Oh, my dress is still in my cedar chest.

I just threw mine away last week or so. I bought it off the rack for about maybe $40 26 years ago. It wasn't special or fancy. When I just pulled it out it had stains all over so in the trash it went.

I've made several wedding dress quilts
and I love how beautiful they look.
Usually I just toss them into the
wash and save any flowers or ribbons etc
to use for decoration. Most of my
customers want them for the christening
of their first child.

It's at the bottom of my hope chest sealed. It's been there for 34 years and I laugh when I think of it. My mom had it cleaned and sealed after our wedding. I assume it's in the box, but I can't be sure, since I've never opened it up. I always thought that it would be funny if it wasn't actually there and what would I do after all this time anyway????
