I got married in july 1970..Never took the wedding dress out of a box that my mother in law insisted I keep it in...There was a play at chuch on summer and they needed an old wedding dress so this dress was in the play, and now back in the box..You just never know when you need a wedding dress..lol

Hanging in the wardrobe, I have worn it out a few time since then, it was a cocktail frock of my mums - 60s green lurex mini dress. Wouldn't wear it now - my bum hangs out of it!

I got married in a gray wool skirt, a pink sweater and red high heels. Called the preacher, met him at the church and was married October 6, 1957. Had $10 and gave the preacher $5. Still married to the same sweet man.

My dress is in a box with bay leaves on top in tissue paper. It was $20.00, bought from Petrie's (if anyone ever remembers those stores). It was a long cream with just a bit of lace in front with a few pearl buttons, empire waist & tied in the back. I wore a floppy blue hat that I put daisys on & had 13 people at the wedding.

Met hubby in August of 1973 ... engaged October 1973 ... married June 21st 1974.

Total cost including flowers & preacher & dress ... $100.00
    Life together .... PRICELESS !!

Mine gown was made into two Mass Vestments . One for me for special family happenings and one for the missions. The bodice became the baby bonnet worn at my oldest grandson's Christening.

I think that's what I'm going to do also... We're making a christening gown for my son, but there's no way we will be using the whole thing. I plan to use at least part of her dress at my wedding.[/quote]

When my MIL was moving to Florida, FIL put her dress into the garbage pile....seeing the tears in her eyes I took the dress and put it in my attic....it wasn't in the best shape(satin)...after she passed away and one of the neices was getting married, I made hankies for each of the Grandkids using the satin and lace from her dress...embroidered each with "Grandma Carol's dress...she loves you always...." ( I just started crying, and I did this 10 years ago)

My dress is in the attic, as well as my Mom's dress. Mom's is satin and I will use it for a christening outfit if there are any grands....
My dress is from '76 and isn't really usable due to the fabric...I think it was part rayon. But maybe some of the lace is usable.

My dress was supposed to get sealed after i loaned it to SIL for her wedding to my DB.
So, it had makeup on it and I was not told. :hunf:
By the time I found out, I didn't have the money to get it cleaned and sealed.
So it's been in the original zippered dress bag for many, many years and a dry cleaning store said they would be afraid to clean it for me.
I keep it as a memento, even though sitting in a closet, they will stain, yellow and dry out.
Anybody reading, if you want to keep your dress for your daughter or any reason...GET IT SEALED ASAP!
I'm ok with it, I s'pose, my DD's wouldn't have worn it. Not their style. It had a high neckline and an empire waistline with lace going down the sheer sleeves. It was beautiful.
Maybe I should try to clean it up and then my grandbaby can have a pillow or something for her wedding one day. :-D
    This is a great thread!
I enjoyed every story including the laughs over...which one?
