We keep a coleman stove in the garage in case the power goes out. I know how to hand sew so if I get really bored I can do that.

The camp stove comes in handy for really strong coffee....lol

My Mom taught me to sew on a treadle machine. Then in 1955 she traded it in on a brand new Kingston electric machine. With six kids she made a lot of our clothes when we were small and five of those kids were boys. She is still sewing on that Kingston, but wishes she hadn't traded her treadle for it. The treadle had belonged to her Mom. I loved sewing on that treadle and felt so big and important when she let me use it because I was quite young. Ahh - fond memories.

Being from the south, I don't have the problems my northern friends have. But, I definately understand how you felt with no power and no internet! I've been there! NOT a good feeling. Feels like all your communication with people have been cut off for good! Just goes to show how much our internet friends mean to us! :)

Hand sewing? I almost always have some "by hand" or "take-along" sewing available. Or you could set up the camping lantern and get out a deck of cards! :( :(

I have 3 Singer treadles, so I'm well prepared if the power goes out...doesn't happen very often here in central Texas. I do quite
a bit of my quilt piecing using one of the treadle machines.
A transformer exploded last year and we had no power all night, it was Summer and OMG it was so hot! We had the windows open and it didn't really help much as it was humid too.YUCK.
I should be thankful we don't get the cold weather that ya'll do.

I know what you mean. I feel totally lost when our power goes out.
