Digitalis - the medicine - comes from the foxglove plant, and as a gardener I know that all parts of the plant are poisonous.
And yet...
... someone figured out that just a little bit of it will help an ailing heart.
How did they figure that out? How many people died while the "recipe" was being perfected?
How do the deer in my yard know never to feed on the foxglove leaves?

last christmas, there was some perfume commercial on tv where the runway model was striding right toward the camera, taking off her clothes...
