I am REALLY surprised - just wonder how these facts come about. I guess Missouri is ALWAYS low, so they didn't make either list. Nevada has the worst unemployment? With all the casinos?? hmmmm

I'm in Michigan and its very bad here. DH and I are blessed to still have jobs, he works for the county and I'm a pet groomer. My 51 year old BIL has been looking for work for 18 months. I see a lot of empty houses and I have lost customers because they have moved out of state, we have also gained new customers because of other shops closing. 3 years ago I had my DH put in alittle grooming shop in my house, I have a few home customers. This way I'll have something to fall back on if something happens at the other shop

We ARE the largest town in the county, population about 2,800, the next largest town is roughly 90-100 miles.

My mom used to be a an ESL teacher when she was writing her paper for her masters degree she studied about IMMERSION. I think that we should try that method in the US. It forces the student to learn the main language in a country faster than other methods.

Been out of work since March 09, start a new job next Monday. 30 hours per week, but will get health insurance I think.

DH was in manufacturing almost 30 years, been out of work good part of 3 years, except for temporary work for 60 days, 2 or 3 times.

We are both in late 50's.
I thank our blessings, we are healthy, God willing, keep my kids safe. Oldest joined Army at 33, after being out of work for a year, yongest moved back home 27 yrs old. Can get part time hours.
Could be worse, my heart goes out to all that are worse off.

    31 MISSOURI 9.2

Nevada no one is going on vacations and spending money or wasting it in the case of gambling.

I'm an RN so I still have my job. Healthcare and esp. nursing is pretty much a sure thing.

DH does heating & A/C repair...works for a small company. Summer of 2009 he had little to no work...this summer has been BOOMING for him! He is sooooooo ready for the fall slow-down before the big winter work.

We have the worst unemployment rate in the country here in Nevada. The "official" unemployment rate is around 14-15% but the real unemployment rate is well over 20% due to a lot of people just giving up looking. Tourism supports our economy and is just way down due to the problems all over the country, as well as the increases in construction of Indian casinos in other states.

The county we live in was the fastest growing in the nation a couple of years ago, now it has the highest unemployment rate (26%) and one of the highest foreclosure rates. 1 out of every 4-5 houses built in the last five years is in foreclosure.

If you have money and want to buy a new house cheap, this is the place to be. If you need a job in any industry but gold mining (which is doing well), Nevada is not the place to be right now.

Everyone is hurting. Even some government workers are being laid off, which is highly unusual. Our son has been out of work for two years.

But at least they did double the cost of our business licenses this year. (oh joy, oh joy). :x

Manufacturers are laying off workers and then hiring thru a temp company paying no benefits and low wages and when your 3 months are up they find a reason to let you go so you cannot draw UE. I had an interview last month for a part time shipping job that paid $8 hr and you had to receive 75-100 pkgs., re-pack and re-ship them in 4.5 hours. Was told I would be expected to "hustle" the whole time I was there with no break. I had to take an aptitude test and a psychological test. Really stupid questions. Fat, female, 50 -no jobs available unless you are willing to drive over 100 miles a day for less than $8. So much for the stimulus package!!! Sorry for the rant but UE is up next week and if I cannot get some sewing (alterations) in I will have to resort to DH paying my bills. Luckily he is a truck driver and he is working 55-60 hrs a week.
About the same here. I was laid off June '09 after 3 years with P.O.. Very low mail volume not enough to keep 4 of us, so we were let go. The news tells people that the UE is better, no we're just at the end of our UE time. Most of us still don't have jobs and no more UE money, which takes us off the record as being UE! Thankfully my DH has a well established job and has taken on a part-time job. And our 19 y/o DD is working and in her second year of college, but she's juggling nicely and helping with the bills that used to be mine. I worked with the Census earlier this year for several weeks, other than that no response from job applications. Sometimes I think it's an age thing as well, I'm almost 40, DD didn't have a problem getting her resturant job.
