My Uncle invited us to Mammouth Mts, CA. for Christmas one year. We were struggling financially with 3 kids at the time...(many years ago). what a blessing it was! I remember there was 12' of snow and we had to get into the house he rented on the second floor because there was so much. We are S. CA. wimps so the snow was a big deal. My other best memory is when I was a kid opening presents on Christmas morning. We had a lot of things to open...nothing very expensive, my mother wrapped socks, paper, crayons, scissors and things like that...but I was thrilled with each one.

    Nice to remember!!

We have a picture of my dad holding his present. I was 5 years old and hugging him around his neck, and my brother is on the side. The gift was a plastic Wawa travel coffee mug. But he was holding it up as though we gave him a big pile of diamond-studded money. I never realized as a child how tight money was, but this picture always reminds me how much love our family has had. We give presents to each other because we love each other, not because we have to impress each other.

My Ma wrapped on nice shoebox for each of us. BUT, she didn't tape the top. She wrapped it to match the box and set it on top. She said, if you peep, you'll spoil your Christmas. She knew my brother was an imp and he'd look and tell everyone what they got. Well, she put odds and ends in it each day for a week before Christmas. The on the Eve, we would sing and pull taffy or have fudge or hot cocoa and cookies and off to bed. That sugar knocked us out and the next morning there would be great surprises for all. BUT one particular Christmas, she kept his box empty. Got that lad worried. He got sick and was in bed, even had a fever. He had wanted one of those caps with the flaps that you pull down over the ears and snap under the chin. He got it, but he was out of kilter until he admitted that he thought she quit loving him. I still have that box and I've always called it my loving box. Mom put a lot of love in them.

Mine is when my kids were little and it was Christmas morning. We always let them just look in their Christmas stockings until we got up. We could hear them saying things like... "Tina!!! Look what Santa gave me!!! How did Santa know I wanted that!!! Jan look what I got in my sock!!!!"

They were so excited. Those were the best times ever.
