My grandmother told me that every sewing room needs giggling kids, a large button box and candy. I try to vary it by having different kinds of mini candy bars or Hershey's kisses in one bowl and always have a stash of peanut M&Ms in there as well. Sometimes, I confess, I treat myself to an m&m for finishing a block, lol. Those treats are for the giggling kids though. With my diet, I like to keep cheese squares on hand or cucumber slices.

your grandmother must have been friends with my grammy... all us kids were in her room all the time... she used to hide the chocolate in a different place & let us hunt it down

i do keep chocolate available in my room, but it has to be in tupperware as we live in a 271 yr old house, and get a mouse from time to time...

i also keep a pkg of baby wipes in there next to the chocolate to make sure the finger are cleaned

I have the baby wipes too. They also help to clean my stencils from scrap booking. We had a squirrel a few years ago but my husband put out some stuff and haven't seen any rodents since.

And I should say, I do keep the candies on the opposite side of my quilting table, near my daughter's sewing machine. I have a bookshelf near my quilting table and keep any drinks there, not near my machine. If it spills, it drenches some plastic storage cases so I don't have to worry. But, unless I'm the one carefully placing that cup or restocking the candy dish or the fruits for myself, then no food is allowed in the sewing room. A while back, DH thought he'd make me 2 fried eggs and bring it to me while quilting. He spilled the dripping egg yolks and grease on my foundation piece for an applique quilt. I nearly cried and the grease stain didn't come out. I had to restart.

How can anyone not think of snacking when in your quilting room. I usally eat my lunch in there also. If I had a bed in there I probably would never leave.

Iced tea. And I keep it far away so I have to get up and get some exercise while I drink. Works for me.
