The Slogans or claims for my town is "Home of the World's First Rodeo" "World's Sweetest Cantaloupe".
We don't have the cantaloupes come in really until the 4th of July or after, so if any of you buy any before then, they aren't from Pecos, but usually down in the valley. We had a very poor season and not many grown last year. I have no idea about this year, haven't heard, but it has been so dry, no rain at all or moisture since August of 2010.
We have a big rodeo (for us anyway) either during the last week of June and first week of July. The rodeo was always during the 4th of July until the last couple of year, then we had some who decided to change it so more cowboys could make it here, since lost of larger cities have a rodeo on the 4th. I guess it works out o.k.

Oh, I forgot to mention that So.St. Paul, MN is home to 3 governors ,Harold Stassen, Harold La Vander and Tim Pawlenty. Two of which have been Presidential candidates.

Apple Valley, CA. was home to Roy Rogers and Dale Evans until their passing...and they are buried here. The Trigger that was always outside their museum is now overlooking Roy and Dale at Sunset Hills.

I was there at the museum and the winery right before Easter...such a lovely town and people. Would love to be there for OZfest in the fall.

We are a village, not a city, but hold title to "White Swan Capital"

Oak Ridge, TN, The Secret City. It was built to make the first atomic bomb. It started as a gated city, you could only get in if you worked or lives here. The old gate houses still stand. We have a Science and Engery Musuem that is awesome!
