I love gardening in the fall and the spring here in still hot texas.
Its to hot in the spring and summer to plant the plants most of you plant in the spring so we do them in fall and through the winter. I love the Pansy and Snapdragons.
spring bulbs also plant in fall for spring color.

Mums, going to go to the nursery tomorrow and buy them. Cleaned up all of the dead summer flowers today. Time for fall.

I love planting mums in the fall. Especially the rust colored ones. Nothing says fall to me like mums do.

Living in Georgia it doesn't get that cold does it? Like rarely freezes? Or do you get colder weather? I don't know if they have them down south but here in Oregon we have ornamental flowering cabbage that come in beautiful shades of purples, variegated white and purples. Really pretty and harder for a colder climate.

Well, the truth be told... I have already planted my fall garden with spinach, lettuce ,kale, radishes, and some kohlrabi and green onions. I like to plant lettuce late, and then throw some straw over it....then when spring comes, it starts growing really early and is usually the first thing I harvest.

Okay since you live in the South what about planting poinsettia's. If you don't go below 50 degrees those should work and WOW would they be pretty planted outside. Especially all the colors they come in now. If it does get colder on occasion you might be able to mound up some mulch around the bases and cover them on those nights where the temp is expected to dip below 50.

I agree with a few others--me. I know winter is coming so it is getting time to hibernate with all my quilting projects around me.

Pansies are my favorite. Beautiful fall color and tons of early spring through early summer blooms. Lots of bang for your buck!
