Celebrating youngest granddaughter's very first birthday with a cookout. She was born at home last year on the 4th of July. Her name is Lily (I suggested Liberty Belle in honor of the day, but no one took me up on that suggestion).

We meet our adult children down by the river that runs through the city and wait for the fireworks at dusk. We've been doing it for about five years. My son started this tradition and it's a good one.

Macy's fireworks display will launch from a barge on the Hudson River right below my building. We'll have the fireworks and the NY skyline right on top of us . Our street will be closed to traffic at 5 o'clock so we're not having outside company; people would have to stay until midnight when the street opens again. So we'll have some friends from the building come for dinner, then we'll go out on our terrace and watch the show(all the apartments have terraces; we have 34 floors, 400+ apartments, and half don't have the NY view). Lots of people hang flags so any boats going by on the river can see them. On either side of us are parks which will be bursting with town residents. Hope the weather cooperates for all of us!

We are in the Mountains of North Carolinia for the summer...the marina where we have our boat has a free lunch and fireworks after dark. Also there is a golf cart parade that comes by our house in the afternoon.
    Happy Fourth Everyone.
I love this board...feel that I am getting to know everyone.
