I have read thru 6 pages of remedies and haven't seen the one my mother used as a sure cure. Take two large ice cubes and she put them in a pie tin and you have to sit with one big toe on each cube until they completely melt and the cold will not develop. You have to catch it at the first sign that something is coming on, but it does work! I think it has something to do with stimulating the pituitary gland.

Now this is something I'd never heard before! Interesting.

Hot tea and any fruit brandy. Lots of it!

It helps to keep away from others that do have colds. Retiring helped that. We take Alka-selzer Plus , chicken
broth and sleep, stay warm and get lots of rest until it is
    gone.

I make a tea out of cedar boughs and drink it. Not sure if it helps, but my mind says it does so it does

Can't cure it, but we drink hot elderberry cordial I've made from the tree in our garden. Soooo smooth for a dry mouth and sore throat.

I could have written the first 8 replies. I use all those methods at the first suspicion of a cold, and most of the time, I win. I keep spray ZiCam and Ocean nasal drops on my night stand. I use the Ocean drops every night before bed and use the ZiCam only if I feel a sore throat or sniffles coming on. Vitamin C (fresh oranges or lemons) is always a good idea, since our bodies don't make or store it. Water is necessary to wash away toxins, excess fat and sugar. Salt water is good.... in a nettie pot to cleanse your sinuses, and it's also good for cuts. It kills germs before they cause infections.
