It's nice to know I'm not the only "graceful" one!
A little background here. I am a Missouri Synod Lutheran - if you are a MS Lutheran, you can understand. I played the piano and organ and always loved "Ave Maria". I always wanted it played, not sung, at our wedding, because I loved the music. (Besides which, I am probably the only MS Lutheran that knows both renditions by heart - in Latin. ANyhow, when my husband and I were married the music in the background was taped music and I barely remember the music, but we did have a tape made of our wedding and when we heard it the first time, there in the background was Ave Maria, played, not sung. One of the highlights of my life. Edie
My husband and I had Ave Maria played as a violin solo at our wedding. A nod to my mother, who is Roman Catholic. It's a beautiful song, no matter what denomination you are. But... some Lutherans in our area would object that it's "too Catholic". I've met some that object to church processionals that use a crucifer and cross, for the same reason. Doesn't bother me, though, I rather like it... but then I suppose being raised by a Catholic mother and Lutheran father I'm some sort of a hybrid.

Let's have a cheer for the ecumenical spirit this Christmas season as we all celebrate the birth of the same Savior!

I'll bet money to a rotten donut, they don't teach Ave Maria in Latin or Adeste Fideles or Stille Nacht or even O Holy Night in public schools any more. I bet they don't even go caroling down the halls in schools or hospitals anymore like we did back in the 50's. Edie --- Is that a shame or what?

OK gotta go with this one too. Looking for a Sing-along Messiah somewhere in Albuquerque. I miss being part of a choir and singing it.
