When that time comes, it is helpful to have the table. Here are 4 examples of some end tables scattered about the house.
the first one is a Shaker Cherry round to with Maple stand.
The second one is a Maple "Pembroke" style of table.
The third is one of a pair of Walnut End Tables that sit at either end of a couch. They are not of any style but my own. The last is
a Walnut "Pembroke" style table. These are the sort of convenient little table that makes sitting in a comfortable share and reading a book, or drinking a cup of coffee, such a pleasure.

All are gorgeous. Love that maple; can you tell I am a light wood person. Had my whole kitchen done in natural hickory and just love it. Thank you for sharing.

I think that Kitchens are one of the places that benefit from a lighter wood treatment. Ours is Oak, but the stain is very light and almost unstained, if you will. Sometimes I have seen kitchens that have Walnut or some other dark wood and it makes the whole room a bit gloomy, for me. Of course, not everybody agrees, and that is what keeps the kitchen remodelers busy.

I notice your Avatar picture is of you, or someone playing a Dulcimer. I used to have a Jean Richie Dulcimer, that was really lovely. Heart shaped sound holes, Spruce top, Walnut fingerboard and fiddle peg head, and 4 strings. Very sweet sounding. I got talked out of it for a pretty good piece of change back in the 1960's but it was fun to have and play. I have toyed with the idea of building recreation of that instrument, but I have not done it yet. Someday file.

Yes, she is confident that she an keep me in line with her outrageously good cooking, and biting humor. She is into Genealogy, and has lot's of male friends, whom she corresponds with. So it is no big deal to either of us. If we haven't gone off the reservation these 40 years or so, I guess it is a pretty good relationship, and long lasting at that.
