Bev, Hugs! I think its totally okay to ask for help if you really need it. If people can and want to help, they will, if they dont, no one will be mad either.
I think it makes me feel good to give, thats why I like to do quilts for charity..........
I have a Little Sister on SS, and she makes so little...I help any way I can, so I KNOW its very hard to live on...not much for any fun or extras!

So I asked if people could give up a square fabric and send along their story. Long story short many people on here have sent and are sending and this has got to be the best experience both her and I have ever had. We are going to be building her quilt with the squares and scrapbooking the stories to go along with it. I have one excited little 14 years old here. Her family is struggling. Many people on this board have made it happen for her and I am beyond thankful. I'll be posting pictures as we go.
I'm so glad you are getting a good response and that the packages are arriving. I'm looking forward to the pictures.

    Yes, I agree, barnbum.
I do believe in helping people out and do most of my helping here close to home.

I received a PM today and someone was asking for fabric. It did strike me as odd. With that feeling in my heart..I don't think it is a good idea to respond. I always listen to my inner self.
I had 5 requests for a certain pattern not to long ago. I was offered money and or money to send the pattern. I stated I didn't want money for anything as it was a charity pattern. Of the 5 I sent, only one person acknowledge that it was received. One person sent me a snide comment..wondering why she had to wait a week to get the pattern.
Over the past few weeks I have been cleaning out my fabric..making a few boxes to share..now I know from reading the above who will get a box.

I got hit like that once. I give food and clothing now. If I see some one hungry, I order something and give it to them. Did that one time at Mc D's. Little old guy, drinking coffee, frail and thin....I bought him breakfast and he SOO loved it....I like helping others out. I have been there when I was hungry and had no clothing or no shelter....SO I thank God for what I have everyday.
I agree about not giving money. We were stopped at a Carl's Jr. and a fella came up and asked for an odd amount of money, something like $16.53. He said he had car trouble and needed help to buy the part he needed. We told him we would go get the part for him and meet him at his car (supposedly just past the on ramp on the freeway). He was no longer interested and then went to other cars in the parking lot. When someone on this board posts a need for them selves or someone they know needs help I am usually willing to help if I can. Many quilters on this board wouldn't be able to sew with out some assistance and it would be sad if there was no pay it forward. If and when the decision to help out is made it is then in God's hands. It's better to be snookered than not help a deserving person.
