You know, I hardly ever see snakes or salamanders anymore. Not that I miss the snakes! We have LOTS of frogs here though, all sizes and colors! A pretty green one was climbing the patio door last night....

I've never seen a turtle out in the wild, but we have toads in the yard.

All the tadpoles are alive and well swimming in my little backyard "pond".

We lived close to a lake when I was growing up. I remember all of those.

I think I would stay clear of that one! We used to have a creek in our neighborhood when I was growing up. We used to catch turtles and tadpoles all the time. We called it the Big Ditch. Well, they paved it and turned it into a drainage ditch. No more fish, turtles or tadpoles. That was so sad for us kids. I think it is stuff like that that's making them scarce.

That was a cool turtle. I've got to share the picture my husband took this morning. A dragonfly may be a bug but its pretty. It was by the pond with the tadpoles.

Yep, got the all the above too, especially the snakes and coyotes. I usually shoot at least a snake a week. I live on the river and we have alot of cottonmouths.

You hit the nail on the head! Over development in wetland areas. There are supposed to be safeguards in place, legal ones, but developers seem to find ways around them all the time.
