Where to stay in Las Vegas?
We're planning a spur of the moment short visit to LV. We have never been there and simply want to experience the strip, see a show, try a slot machine or two, and people watch. I'm looking on-line for a flight/hotel package deal and have no idea where to stay. We will probably only stay 3-4 nights to keep the cost down. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help.

My husband and I stay at the Monte Carlo. It is not too big and easy to find your way around. It is centrally located and the prices are reasonable. I will tell you that the rooms have not been updated but they are clean.
Enjoy your trip.....and leave some $ for me to win...lol

Depending on what kind of money you want to spend, but to save money, go during the week. Rates go up dramatically on the week end. It is fun to stay on the Strip - you can walk to so many places. But parking is free at the casinos, so if you are going to rent a car, you will see a lot more. All the big Casinos have deals, and a lot of them give you money to play in their hotel. Or they comp you food. We love Las Vegas and have a time-share there so go quite a bit. Also some of the casinos have shows where they will give you a discount to the shows.
Do you have any idea which shows you want to see? It is cheaper to buy the tickets when you get there - the on-line fees can be pretty high, but then you run the risk of not seeing the show you want to see. Check to see which days are dark for the show and schedule around those.
They have some pretty wonderful quilt shops too. I believe there is even a quilt tour.

Staying at the Flamingo or Caesar's puts you in a central spot on the Strip and the courtyard there is beautiful. Excalibur - Monte Carlo New York New York - Mandalay Bay are all wonderful but they are located at the far end of the strip - most all of the hotels on the Strip are good - it just depends upon what your personal preferences may be. If you can manage a trip to "Old Town" - Fremont Street Experience is a fun thing to do - the light show under the canopy at night is super!!!! Have a great time!!!!

Have stayed downtown and on the strip, and enjoyed both. Just wanted to warn you about the dry heat in Vegas in July. It feels so much different than Texas heat (humid) and will get you quick, so stay hydrated and sunscreened when you're out and about.
