Probably a lot of truth to that.

For those who would love raised beds....we saw the most beautiful 'garden' planted in 5 gallon buckets! This person raised tomatoes, green beans, cabbage, broccoli, lettuce - all in buckets. It was a little unusual looking, but the plants were gorgeous, watering and weeding were easy, no tilling - sounds pretty smart to me!

Here is the start of my garden. I love being outside the sunshine and fresh air digging in the dirt!

Yes we grow some of our own food. I like the process of canning..go figure........I freeze some things. What I do not grow myself due to lack of room, I buy from a local farmer and put up. I visit the blueberry, and strawberry farm. We have thornless blackberries. It is very hard to sew at garden time, but I enjoy both.

I have been gardening for years. I love it. I also have flowers. It is nice to be outside and enjoy some nice weather. I don't quilt much in the summer unless there is a rainy day. It is a nice break from quilting and I get my exercise. Happy Gardening

[quote=lovingmama]I love to garden, just don't know how to do it. One time I even watered the weeds!

I do too, deliberately. I dig up Dandelions from the lawn, as well as wild lettuce, and replant them with flowers among the veggies. They are darn good eating, and my turtle loves them too. In fact, I have to put Purslane in pots to keep it from the turtle, he loves it so much he even eats the roots.

I love leaf lettuce, so grow about 10 varieties. Spinach also. Always have grown tomatoes and sweet peppers, sometimes beets, carrots, green beans. Summer squash makes an appearance every few years. I'm thinking of turning over one of my raised beds to raspberries. I can fit 2 Purple Royalty and 2 yellow Anne plants in that space.

Home grown is the best. I love being out doors and watching the plants grow. We can every year. Isn't wonderful to have home grown food in January when there is snow falling?

My husband and I have tending a garden for 30 years, in 2010 is the only time we didn't get to put up or can.Our garden lays in low line area.So weeds took it,but you can buy anything you want if money permits, except the fresh taste of home grown veggies.
