Default Who's looking at seed catalogs today?

    'Twas the day after Christmas,
And the grass was still green.
    Up here in NY
    That is not often seen!

    Just harvested cabbage,
    (Why's THAT still alive?)
    I guess because not yet
    did temperatures dive...

'Nuff of the rhyming stuff. Since there's no snow, and Christmas is over, I was wondering if I am the only one getting into the seed catalogs already.

Since the weather has been so mild and no snow, I was thinking maybe we won't have any real winter (dreaming, anyway), then my hubby says we probably won't have spring until May and that sobered me up!! I like looking at seed catalogs and imagineing my garden so beautiful!!

ha ha! "Seeds-R-Us" is our place. We manufacture automatic seeding machines for greenhouses and seed companies are more than happy to share with us. We also get plenty of sample seeds from our customers who want to sow something weird and wonderful that we've not run into yet. This past spring in fact, we made a machine to sow cotton seeds. We also pick up seed catalogs from the seed companies - not the distributors, but the breeders that sell large bulk seed to greenhouses. In fact, got a Christmas Gift from Ball Seed (breeders of the "Wave" Petunia) the other day. A huge propagation book that could come in handy and a pair of rubberized garden gloves that will be great for FMQ!!

My DD and her mother-in -law have been to local farmers' markets and picked up heirloom seeds already for next year. The garlic is already planted. We have also all already planted fruit trees.
This coming year we (my DH and I, my DD and her husband, and DD's in-laws) are all getting together to work in the garden and share the work and the fruits/vegies of our labors!

Love gardening and do a lot of canning with the Blue Book. Lots of good eating in jars left...and sweet potatoes!!! Love the Georgia Jet sweet potatoes. Favor buying the seeds & plants at the local level. And disease resistant please. Local green house sells heirloom plants...ran by a neighbor...so we buy from him.
