Talk about blatant, we have had a couple of instances at local Walmart where person walked out rhe door with a large screen tv and like items. Found out by warching video surveylance tapes. Id just die if I did that!

Honesty is a big thing for my family.. I was at a store recently and in my cart was a very large bag of dog food. They have the pull off scanner codes since they are so heavy. I handed it to the clerk to ring up. at the end of my purchase the total was lower than I expected so i asked to see a printout.... She did not scan the dog food. When I mentioned it to her she said..... you should not have reminded me.... you would have gotten $40 in free dog food. She said this with my young child present. he looks at me and says "mom is it OK to steal now?" I marched to the manager and asked him to explain to my young son why......

Maybe I'm just naive, but I'm having a tough time believing quilters can be thieves. I mean, the whole point of quilting is that we are making something nice for our family or friends. What's the point of doing this if we're stealing fabric or quilting supplies? I don't get it, and I find this very distressing.
I'm hoping the quilt store simply misplaced the kits.

Last week I stopped (for the first time ever) at Checker Distributors to pick up some items for my store. They're one of the major fabric distributors here in the US.
I got talking with the woman behind the counter, who was entering my order into their computer system. We got to talking about how they do inventory - they make a special barcode for EACH bolt that arrives (which impressed me) - and I asked her if they lost very much inventory over the course of a year.
To my shock, she said YES! And that it upset her a great deal, because their customers are shop-owners, who certainly would be well acquainted with the problem of theft, having been on the losing end of it themselves. She could not understand how, of all people, shop-owners themselves would stoop so low.
!!
So ... apparently it's everywhere. :-(

On the other side, trying to pay back what was not charged under $20 at a big discount store cost the store more money to process then keeping the item. So the cost goes back to everyone even doing what is right. You can't win sometimes for losing.
