Why?

I don't know what "status" people are talking about but this is just a question, it doesn't matter to me one way or the other, just thought I would start a question kind of like the one that was here a few days or week ago about the purple thang. Not trying to start a negative debate just a friendly one. I personally do not reply to a subject I don't have an answer for. If it's something I too would like to know I just go back and look at it from time to time. This is what I was doing when I found several replies but the question was never answered. If I ask a question and no one has an answer, no problem. This is a very knowledgeable group of people and if I don't get an answer to a quilting question it's probably because I didn't word the question right and no one knows what I'm talking about, this is called my brain in working one way and my fingers another :)
I didn't mean to make peole get so defensive and angry in some cases. At least some of the replies seem angry. I better go back to being silent and just looking. Have a great one.

It has never occurred to me to post with an "ulterior motive"! I never thought about "upping my numbers", or being "top poster for the day", or even posting in order to "watch" so that I can follow a thread.
I must be awfully simple and naive; I just thought we were chatting! LOL!
Chats here like anywhere else have some comments that make you go, "doh!"

I don't usually post a reply if I don't know the answer or if what I would say has already been said. Although, sometimes, I post a reply to find others posted the same answer while I was typing! I'm a slow typer and sometimes a slow thinker. Hmmmmm! I don't worry about that "status" thing, my "regular here" comes and goes. It's okay by me. Anyway....Hi and welcome from Texas. (O:

I think its a bit of a tease when people here are trying to sell something in the Classifieds section and someone posts something like "You got nice fabric/patterns/quilts! Good luck selling it!" I don't think they do it to be mean, though.
Honestly I don't think people respond to a question without a real answer or an ad without interest in buying to be a tease or to up their comment numbers. I really think the quilters on here are really supportive and nice so people do respond with things like "I don't know, but I hope you find the answer." I'd rather have that than negitive answers telling me I'm an idiot for asking such things. We've all heard the horror stories about a new quilter going to a guild made up of quilters set in their ways and not being very supportive. Here its just the opposite. I'm not a new quilter (4 years in December), but I haven't completed very many projects and I didn't quilt a thing for such a long time that when I came back on here with a project in mind I found that I forgot a lot of things that I thought I knew. And I felt so STUPID for asking questions about these things to begin with, but no one ever said I was stupid for not knowing how to do something and were happy to give answers. That's a comforting thing to know there is a lot of support on here.

Hey okie--Don't go back into hiding! It's a good thought that you brought up. Sometimes I see a post with a picture then it seems like there are 8 pages of things like "cute quilt" and I wonder why, BUT I'm thinking if it was a picture of MY project, i'd probably feel pretty good about that many people taking a second to say 'you done good, kid.'

I don't usually post if I don't know the answer, however, I just think it's a nice way to know that people actually read what you have posted. Some days I feel really talkative, other days, I just read and look at all the wonderful pictures. Didn't even know that posting meant anything but trying to be nice, and give an opinion.
