Does the Farmers Almanac ever update their prediction?[/quote]
I don't know for sure but the newest edition should be out this month or next.
I just read the other day that wide brown stripes on the worms means a milder winter. Wider black stripes, pile up the firewood.

Hi i have seen the woolies and they have dark bands in the center very thick mean here we will have a hard winter. The animals have been harvesting since the spring for winter and the fruit trees are loaded this year as well.If you watch your nature around you can basically tell what kind of winter you will have.

Wow! I love this board!! I've learned a lot about the weather and I've also learned (once again) how blessed we are to be HERE! I've never lived anywhere else. I pray for healing rains in Texas and only light snow for the rest of you!

look at the squirrel's tails, they're quite bushy where I'm at. that means long or harsh winter, I don't remember. that and spider webs are pretty high up (don't know where I heard that one) and I'm seeing very few opened walnuts, many the nut just goes missing so animals are storing up food.
One thing to be glad for, I made a lot of tops this summer so have plenty to hand quilt under this winter!

Here in Maine the tops of the pine trees are overloaded with cones. The crab apple trees are so full they look like clusters of grapes. We have lots of acorns also.
I guess this means we are in for it again! We had the driveway paved and hired someone to plow for us. We are in our 70s and it was getting a bit too much. Glad we did all that.
