I paid a about $70 (to a computer service company) to have my data removed before giving away a notebook computer. The person I gave the computer to (NOT computer savvy at all) happened upon some very sensitive information I had written. So, in my opinion, even "non" computer-type people can find your data. Everyone may have a different opinion - this is what happened to me.... please be careful who ends up with your computer.

I took my laptop into Best Buy to have the keyboard replaced. Did not feel I had to pay the $100.00 to have it backed up for a keyboard. Needless to say, everything is gone. So if you want everything erased, just take it for a repair and it will come back empty!!! Best Buy just brushes you off and offers no help.

All your information is still there even if you reformat a pro can find it. Someone who worked with my cousin did this (on purpose cause she was fired)(reformatted) and erased the hard drive but they did get it all back.

DESTROY THE HARD DRIVE!
In my mind it's 1) faster and 2) much more secure.
Plus you finally get to take a hammer to the dumb thing! LOL!
