I remember making a sugar sandwich. Bread, butter and sprinkle with sugar.

My mom used to tell me that when she was a child, they were so dirt poor (my grandfather had passed away very young leaving my grandmother with nine kids), their treat was to sprinkle a little sugar on a piece of white bread, then let the faucet drip water onto it, making a sugar paste. They thought it was heavenly!

The butter/bread and sugar was a favorite of mine as a kid also.

Did someone mention white bread and mayonaise, loved it. I will still put mayo on a piece of toast sometimes. Speaking of bread, when I was a kid sometimes when the bread was very fresh we would squeeze it tightly into a ball
and eat it completely different taste.

My dad always put sugar on his fresh sliced tomatoes. I know that a little sugar in sauce will cut the acid but I don't know why he would do this.

My grandmother (of Hutterite heritage) made something called 'Glumz" and it smelled about as bad as it sounds, but seemed to be a real delicacy. I later learned that it was a form of fresh cottage cheese (something I cannot stomach to this day).

I love Carpaccio--extremely thinly sliced raw veal or very good beef tenderloin, drizzled with olive oil, some fresh ground black pepper, shavings of good parmesan cheese, and a drizzle of fresh lemon juice.

I eat any egg dish with salsa and if that is not available, with ketchup.

Best sandwich in the world: toasted bread, sliced cucumber, sliced cheddar and lots and lots of mustard.

We lived for a time in Australia, and the children would have white bread with butter and 'Hundreds and Thousands' (the candy sprinkles we use for cake decorating). Sounds a lot like bread with butter and sugar to me.

My grandma used to make me bread with butter and sugar and just a drizzle of hot tea on it "to hold the sugar on." I've loved tea ever since, never did learn to drink coffee.

I like fat-free cottage cheese with just a sprinkle of cinnamon and a serving of sugar-free canned peaches on it. It's low-fat, low-sugar and high protein. Sounded weird when I heard of it but I now eat it often.

My brother and I would take a jar of mustard and dip fresh green onions in it and eat it while watching Saturday morning TV. Remember Fury and Sky King. We could go thru a bunch of onions in that time.
