Words or phrases that make you crazy

[QUOTE=djmormon;5059682]I really don't mind how people talk but I don't like it when the Lord's name is taken in vain. I think most people don't know the definition of vain: without real significance, value, or importance; baseless or worthless.[/QUOTE
When my children were young and they would start to say something like "Oh God" or "Jesus" I would sternly look at them and say " You can finish the rest of your prayer now" or " I sure hope that was a prayer you were about to do". They learned pretty fast not to use those words as an expletive. I can remember recently almost telling a co-worker the same thing when I heard her say it, not sure how she would have taken it.
I was in the military, frequently when I heard someone say "GOD Damm" I would pause, look reflective and say " God does not damm, he saves and forgives" Amazing how fast that can defuse some big burly guys. No one ever got mad at me for it and some thanked me.

Wow, yes so many of them bother me also. One that I have heard recently is "We were conversating", HUH? Do you mean talking? The text message short cuts, people are not going to know how to spell anymore (no problem I guess since all we are going to have to do is speak and the computer will type it for us). Another thing that has been bugging me is the blended words like: Skort for shorts/skirt or what we use to call coulottes (sp), pleather for patent leather, plarn for plastic yarn, shrug? not sure what this is for shoulder rug??? Oh, and the one that is everywhere, on TV and even professionals saying "Me and my friend" instead of my friend and I. Sorry folks, got a little carried away!
I got an email from my bank the other day, titled something like "More power to We, the Savers." Aaaaarrggh...

People who don't know how to use between and among properly. I am such a stickler for good grammar that I've been known to shout at a news reader on tv. My DH just looks at me and shakes his head. :-)

The one I have never "gotten" and its a southern phrase is " bless her heart" and typically when its used either the words just prior or the ones to follow are not exactly kind. Its masking some kind of insult.... for example "she just ate that whole box of twinkies .. Bless her heart". or "bless her heart , she never stopped eating those twinkies till the whole box was gone."
