I realize that many quilters have beautifully organized systems when making note of a special decorative stitch they might use...making a sample on a piece of fabric dedicated for this purpose...noting size, length, width, etc.
BUT..for me, I take a 3½" note paper..(much like post-It's but without adhesive) and sew a couple of inches of the decorative stitch I'm using on it.
Then I write the notations on it as to stitch length, width and stitch name.
I find it much easier and neater to write on paper than fabric! ;) and I can file it with the picture of the item.
