I can't really think of any that are good. Most movies do not do justice to the book. If the author is good, your own imagination/vision far surpasses the screenplay.

    Best: THE HELP
Worst: some of the Harry Potter movies

In THE HELP the main characters matched my mental images after reading the book. Sissy Spacek was hilarious.

I have to agree, and I hope it gets an Academy Award nod. Jan

The best, IMO, were the Narnia movies, stayed fairly true to the books.
Yes I agree "Under the Tuscan Sun" adaptation really sucked. I saw "Water for Elephants" the other day and they did a good job of it. I also liked "To Kill a Mockingbird", and they did a good job of the "Colour Purple". In fact I think it was as good as the book.

I would consider Lord Of The Rings the best. Even with the changes made the movie was stunning in its vastness. I would consider Eragon the worst. They made it cheap and did not follow the story line. There are 3 more books, at least. And Christopher Paolini's writing is almost as involved as Tolkens, but easier to read.
I loved the Harry Potter books and movies, too.

Of course Pride and Preudice -BBC version with Colin Firth was the absolute best movie adaptation ever.

Worst- saw BBCs Mansfield park with Billy Piper - have to say - was very disappointing!

Hands down all time Worst - The Ten Commandments. It tried and fell so short of showing the scope of God's power - and everything else in the scripture that it covered.

I was in New Zealand when they premiered the 4th one -- They had huge replicas of the ogre and club reaching out over the theater and the little guy crawling down the roof of the airport -- Lots of fun.

The first Harry Potter I loved because of the narrow gauge train -- It was filmed in Wales and the train is real -- a scheduled Britrail train -- a great ride over very scenic areas

I just hate it when people say "I saw the movie, why would I need to read the book?"

I always made my kids read the book before I would take them to see the movie and they ALWAYS said it was better in their minds!

YES. Put The Color Purple on my list. Near the Top.
