Steven Kings Delores Clayborne is one of the best adaptations of a book to movie I've seen in years. Took a bit of a Horror book and made a great movie. I want Delores on my team! Some great posts about Steven King. Most people love or hate him but the movies mentioned here are some of his best work and the movies are temendous.
I agree with the Kite Runner too. Excellent job on that one. I cried through the book and the movie even though some parts were cut.

Clan of the Cave Bear is an awful movie and the book series is wonderful. I've read every one. I loved reading Battlefield Earth and was so looking forward to the movie, Wrong!

Simon Birch was a very abbreviated adaptation of "A Prayer for Owen Meany" by John Irving, in my opinion a fantastic book. Highly recommend the book .

speaking of Gary Sinise, I loved "Of Mice and Men" with him and John Malkovich in it. But then I loved the original film with Burgess Meredith too.

To Kill a Mockingbird has always been my favorite, both book and movie. worst??hard to say, I'm a reader first so many times even though the movie is OK it usually disappoints me a bit.

As an English major and avid bookworm, I'm not a great fan of most movie adaptations of books. However, one that stands out as being decent is The Shawshank Redemption based on Stephen King's short story - Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption.

As far as worst, Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein takes the cake. The only thing the movie had in common with the book was the title.

I really liked Delores Clayborne and Shawshank Redemption, as well as The Green Mile and the one about the clown. And I have only read one or two of his short stories, never the books. Most unusual as I am a reader.

NOT into the Harry Potter or any likeness.
I am more on the Shawshank Redemption, Shindler's List, The Client type.

Nobody has mentioned the "Left Behind" series by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins. The books are wonderful, well-written. When the first 2 movies came out, I bought both DVD's. Kirk Cameron was an excellent choice for the Buck Williams character, but the story was so out-of-sequence, I had a devil of a time trying to correlate with the book. A few minutes of better dialogue in the correct order would have made the movie more understandable. A++ on the books, thumbs DOWN on the movies.
