Yesterday was a beautiful Autumn day
#1
I think that every year every season has at least one day that is the perfect icon of that season. Yesterday was the perfect Autumnal day. I spent some time out side just drinking it in and feeling the rhythm of the natural world around me. This poem came to me and I wanted to share it with everyone and in doing so share the beauty of the day.
Autumn is the time when
Jays take over the barn roof
And telephone pole tops
With meadow birds gone
They can push and bully
And ignore all the polite rules
The other birds enforce
Autumn is the time when
The pastures turn green
With the first rain’s storm
Making it possible for the
Tender weeds to sprout
In gopher hole mountains
Autumn is the time when
Weary orchard grasses
Lay down in surrender
To deer paths and boots
While apples shine in the trees
Ruby and amber jewels
Autumn is the time when
Blue sky turns hazy with
Left over smoke from a stove
Revived and burning after
It’s long summer sleep.
Autumn is the time when
Heavy blankets come out
Of their hiding places
Trunks and chests plundered
For their warm treasures
While comforters delight
In being needed again
Autumn is the time when
The earth longs for
A winter’s nap and the easy
Slumber of December.

I
I live on the southern Oregon coast....in summer all the grasses turn brown and in winter, with the rains, turn green again...hence our upside down landscape...bare branches, green grass....
