There's been a massive earthquake in Samoa this morning, and they've been hit by a large tidal wave that is now on it's way here.

There are Civil Defence sirens going off all up the coast and they're asking people to move inland.

    Scary stuff!

At least we've had warning, and it's not in the middle of the night. We have a lot of population living right on the coastline, the beaches are a huge part of our culture and lifestyle.

Just stay safe! I can't stop thinking about this. Let us know about your friend's daughter that is kayaking.

That's a link to our most popular news site.

Just under an hour till it hits here. Reports are coming in from Samoa now, just devestating.

I live about an hour north of Wellington, our capital city, which is at the bottom of the North Island in that photo.

First Terri and the typhoon, now you and the big wave. Blue, call the chickens in, put on the waders, and stay safe.

Getting conflicting reports now.... but Civil Defence Authority have downgraded their warning, so the danger has passed. It has hit later than expected, but hasn't been as big, and so far is having no impact.

Our thoughts turn now to those in Samoa, they're going to need a lot of help.

I read about Samoa. Prayers going up to the people affected by it. I can imagine how frightening it must be for neighboring countries, though. After the 2003 Tsunami, I'd be concerned about it. Rest well. It sounds like the danger has passed.
