Since several of us work TRF (Texas Renaissance Festival) and the final weekend is Friday, Saturday, Sunday after Thanksgiving, we will be doing ours at DD's home so we don't have to drive back 2-3 hours to be at work early Friday morning.
Never know how many we will have as there are lots of friends from Faire that won't be able to go home. Last year I think we had about a dozen or so non-family members at one time or another as well as those of us who were family.
DD's home is not large, but we brought in lawn chairs and folding tables and filled up the whole living area and even sent a few to various bedrooms...the sewing machine table even got called into use!
She tells everybody she'll do the cooking if they'll do the cleaning up!

Weather permitting, my DH & I will drive to Boise, Idaho to spend the week with our son (college student there) and my oldest brother & SIL. I will probably cook, because my SIL doesn't - but she cleans up! Good deal in my book! We will spend lots of time playing cards.
Any Idaho board members want to meet up in Boise???

My parents have passed. My MIL goes to my SIL's house, so it's just DH and all 6 of our children. We make a big production out of dinner. China, crystal, the whole shebang. My kids help with cooking. Most of them have their special dish they make. All that work, for about a 1/2 hour of eating. But the smile on the faces of my kids because they get to use the good stuff is worth it. Kids are 25, 17,15, 13, 12,&12.

But think about all those leftovers for the rest of the week.
I don't like turkey all that much but look forward to a hot turkey sandwich and picking on leftover veggies, rolls and desserts all weekend.
Day after Thanksgiving usually finds us at my cousin Toni's Turkey Soup and Sandwich Party, runs anytime from 4pm til 11pm. She holds one every year and at times there can be 60+ people in her house at the same time. Great way to catch up with my extended family. May in Jersey

So far, I always cook. Just purchased a plane ticket for my son so he could come home from college for Thanksgiving. My other son and DIL live in town. They got married last year. I'm hoping one of these years they will volunteer to make the dinner, but my son loves my cooking, and so I'm not sure if that will ever happen. I like trying new recipes, but my family wants it exactly the same every year. Now I make one new thing each year in addition to the old favorites.

We go to my daughter's house. She has darling 10 y.o. boy/girl twins. Her husband is a super SIL! They invite another couple and their two teen boys who have no relatives here. It is always a wonderful time! I bring some of the food and so does the other girl.

Thanksgiving is my most favorite day of the year, possibly in part because I am a pilgrim transplanted from another place. When Pat and I get the chance, we stay home - just the two of us, and we create the day just the way we want. No overeating this year though.
Most people don't understand that I am not too keen on going to places houses for the holiday and feel compelled to invite us. Some got offeneded when I didn't take their invite. Sometimes, I get a weird bug and do accept an invite. We'll see....

We used to spend it with all the family, but everyone has sort of scattered and the younger ones work. Sooooo, our best friends (45 years now) and my DH and I made reservations at a really nice restaurant and go together. This year we are going to a place that overlooks a lake and has a buffet type serving. Really looking forward to it this year.

Can't wait for turkey day! Drive about 4hrs to SW Ia., to have Thanksgiving with aunts, uncles and cousins. Afterwards we play bingo with everyone bringing some sort of gift to win. Last year a PIG was introduced and now is the mascot for fun and family The following wknd I cook Thanksgiving for my dh, mil,fil, and our 2 daughters, their husbands and 1 single daughter. Can't wait.
