Dyson animal vacuum around $500. Never felt I could afford it before, but definitely worth it. 3 Labs, 1 Pug, 1 cat. Took it in for repairs (nothing serious) once after six months and he explained the preventive maintenance to be done ... if I would have read the manual. I've had it for about 5 years.

Eureka Sanataire. Cleans wonderfully really pulls out the dirt and dog hair. When my carpet was replaced there was very little dirt under the pad. Installer said this is a good sign of a good vac.

I have an Oreck for regular cleaning and then I have the little hand held Oreck for the car, steps, scraps, etc. And I love them both. Edie

Great topic. Do NOT get an Oreck. A piece of junk so I am curious to see what every one likes for my next one.

I love my Roomba. I press a button and off it goes all by itself. That means I can be on the QB or take a shower or bake a cake! This thing is the greatest. I have a dog and I can't get over the very fine dust it picks up and that fine dust might be dog dander, I'm not sure. You can set it to do the vacuuming in the middle of the night but I don't do that. It cleans under furniture (beds) as well as the middle of a floor. And when it thinks its done, it will make a circle to see if its missed any dust and will go back out and get it. When its finished, it docks itself and we're done!

I gave up a Rainbow for a Kirby....wrong again! My Kirby vacs very well but the mechanics of changing to the other tools is well beyond me. The carpet cleaner stuff is awful. We finally bought another carpet cleaner, that only does carpets. Two cats and lots of hair.
