Hi All.
My name is Marlene, I am from Bendigo Victoria.
I have been following this site for many months,
and I am in awe of what you all achive.
I am 65 and disabled, I have enough fabric to sink a ship,
but dont know where to start with making my first quilt.
Any advice.???

welcome to the board. I am also from australia and am 63 and am on a disability pension and I have not long been quilting too, my first quilt was a log cabin around a very nice panel it was so easy to do and very quick, maybe that would be a good start for you. I also made a lap quilt for my mum around a very nice panel and had it finished in a couple of hours, if you click on my name it will bring you to my place and you should be able to find my posts with the quilts. good luck with whatever you decide to do, look forward to seeing your first quilt

Welcome to the board from Michigan!
http://www.quiltville.com/
is a good place to start..
maybe something quick and small would give you enough pleasure and pride to take on something bigger..like baby quilts or twin size, for a womens shelter. "cage comforters" for a local animal shelter..pillow cases..so much!

Welcome Marlene.
I bet I am one of only a dozen or so here who has been to Bendigo! (loved it)
Are you planning to use a machine, or to hand sew?
Do you want to make a quilt for yourself, to give away, or just for the fun of it?
I recommend starting with something small, just to avoid having that weight to manage. I am not really into table toppers and such- the very first patchwork I made (I didnt quilt it) was a cushion cover. Not too big and, if it doesnt work out too well, at least you have something soft at the end of it.....
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!
