I suggest that you go to your local quilt shop and see if they offer classes. You're a future fabric purchaser, so they want you to succeed. If they don't have classes, they do have advice!
Otherwise, visit the library or buy a book like the others have suggested. And look for a quilting guild near where you live. Lots of advice, there!

Hi and Welcome to the world of quilters!!
I would suggest going to your local quilt shop and sign up for a beginners quilt class!! Classes are so much fun and it is a hands on learning experience. Besides you meet new friends and most classes are great fun!
