I have made several and used felt & hand appliqued using the button hole stitch. Did for the various seasons and they were fun and quick. I cut a circle from felt and found different patterns from various places (pumpkins for fall, snowmen for winter etc.) then appliqued the pieces on the felt & put another piece of felt on the back & button hole stitched all around. If you try this method make sure you cut both the circles at the same time or they will not fit together properly, learned the hard way.

Great looking candle mat and candle wouldn't cover the design

Go to the top, click on search, and plug in candle mat.

Welcome from Oklahoma! When I make candle mats, I just choose a block, make it, quilt it and bind it. I don't do anything special.
