    Welcome from Michigan. :D
If you have a Joann's near you, go to their book section and get the book "Quilt with Confidence" by Nancy Zieman. This walks you thru every step and before you know it, you will have created a quilt! Good luck

Welcome from El Paso Tx! Start small then work your up. Sometimes if we start with a full size quilt you can get frustrated and quit. It then becomes a UFO. You need someone to guide your thru the process!

Hi from West Virginia. Just jump in and do it. Your first quilt is the scariest, but it also the best one to look back on later and laugh. Go Girl!!

    Hello and welcome from Minnesota.
Either go online to all the free quilt sites or go to your public library. You can browse to your heart's content! I'm sure you'll find a quilt...or 2 that will catch your eye!
    Have fun!

Hello and welcome from the UK! I was in the same frame of mind when I bought my first lot of fabric. Couldn't resist and then couldn't find the courage to cut it. All sorts of excuses. Take a deep breath - remember, it's only fabric - not open heart surgery - and enjoy yourself - whatever pattern you decide on will be wonderful because you made it. And there will be lots of support and encouragement here when you feel you need it. Don't be shy.

I did the same - got myself all geared up, then months passed. The first cut is the hardest, and it gets easier every time after that! I'd suggest a rail fence - simple strips, always looks fabulous. I used Old Red Barn Co's tutorials as part of a quiltalong, Dana's instructions are very clean but you'll have to fish through her posts to get at all the steps. Step 1 is here if you want it: http://oldredbarnco.blogspot.com/200...ng-week-1.html

If you do decide on a log cabin block this is the link to some very clear instructions that I used to sew my first one. http://middyjane.wordpress.com/2010/...g-cabin-quilt/

My first quilt was a log cabin, but I was taking a class, so I had advise all the way.

I find if I just do the first step and not get too focused on the rest I do better. I say to self...self let's just figure out this cutting board and see if I can cut a straight line!
