I have two granddaughters graduating this May and with the economy the way it is someone suggested I make each of them a quilt. I am almost done with the first top (chevron). I'm at a loss as to what to use for the back - another top or just plain.
ps -- I am totally new to this

Welcome from Missouri. I have learned that I like to use print fabric that coordinates with some of the quilt top fabrics as the backing. Then when the quilt is quilted and bound, it looks almost reversable. I just like that look, personally. Happy quilting.

Welcome from Knoxville, Tennessee :D I agree with Lois, I too like to put a print on the back but have also used muslin on many as well and they all turned out well. I only do utilitarian quilts and am pretty new at this myself

I used a cute, coordinating flannel print on the back of the quilts I made for my college kids to make it softer and snugglier. They really like the flannel. The quilts are a wonderful way to make our beloved college students feel cozy and well-loved while far from home!
