Hello from Central VA
Hi All! I'm a newbie quilter, getting ready to start on my first large quilt. I'm excited, but scared to death! I will be using Moda's Avalon jelly roll, combined with a solid vanilla colored sheet I found for $2, as well as some yardage from the fabric collection to complete my queen sized top. I have decided on and re-decided on the design of the quilt so many times, and have found myself literally dreaming about different ideas! I do tend to hyper focus a little on projects! I can't even decide if I should/shouldn't wash the precuts. So many differing opinions out there! I guess I will never get started on this thing if I don't figure that one out!

Thanks for the welcome, Tartan. I read on craftsy that you shouldn't wash precuts, but then it says you should either wash all OR none of your fabrics. That's where my dilemma lies. Obviously, the sheet I got has been washed, so I don't know what to do. What kind of results have you gotten from using washed and unwashed fabrics together?

Welcome from Southern California. Hope that Virginia is finally thawing out from winter. I always suggest that newbie start with a smaller project. Sometimes a larger quilt can be a little intimidating. We are here to help so if you have any problems, we are always here to help you thru the process.

Yes, VA has thawed out! I'm from CA, and the weather is the only thing I'd trade if I could! I have made smaller quilts, but it is still intimidating to do a large one. Seeing photos and reading stories of other newbies' success is very encouraging! I think what I'm most afraid of is my sewing machine being temperamental on me
